The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Gameplay Video

As promised, Nintendo released a new look at the gameplay of Tears of the Kingdom earlier this morning. The entire video is about thirteen minutes long so it'd be best to watch that, but if you'd rather have a rundown of some of the new things shown, well, here you go.

Abilities:

Four new abilities were shown off: Fuse, Recall, Ultrahand, and Ascend.

Fuse lets you combine items together to make new weapons. In the video they showed off a hammer made by a boulder and tree branch as well as a homing arrow that utilized a Keese eye.

Recall is a rewind time mechanic used on objects. In the video, they used a falling boulder to get up to the new Sky Islands by rewinding its fall and turning it into a makeshift elevator.

Ultrahand reminded me of Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts&Bolts with its power to combine random items into a vehicle. One example they showed was a makeshift raft that was put together with a few logs and a couple of fans.

Ascend is a new sort of climbing ability that'll allow Link to pass through most ceilings to get to the floor above. The example they showed was Link going into a cave and using Ascend to pass through the ceiling to the top of the mountain above.

Locale:

The Sky Islands. As the name implies, they're islands in the skies above Hyrule covered in manmade objects and yellow trees. Aonuma called them out in the video so there's something special about the trees. Probably just a design choice, but who knows?

Enemy:

Constructs. Green, robotic-looking enemies. Not much to say about them. They can use weapons and even Fused weapons against Link.

Skydive:

Not so new since it was in Skyward Sword, but you can dive straight from the Sky Islands down to the rivers in the surface below which is new.

Map Coordinates:

The mini map shows off three numbers made up of four digits that seem to be Link's coordinates on the map.

Weapon Degradation:

Yeah, no surprise that this one came back. At least using Fuse may help to extend the life and usefulness of your weapons though.

Switch OLED

And last, but not least, a special Tears of the Kingdom themed Switch OLED is coming as well as a themed Pro Controller.
